Southern Terminus: US-60/US-69/former OK-66, downtown
Vinita
Looking south, you can see the 'End' shield on the far side of
the intersection.
The OK-66 signs are a carryover from when that highway followed the old
US-66 route all the way to the Kansas State Line, and should have been removed
a while ago. OK-66 eastern terminus is now about five miles west of this
spot.
Northern terminus: OK-10/US-59, Welch
All the road maps show OK-2 continuing north past this point, duplexed
with US-59 all the way to the Kansas state line. The real world,
however, has a different story. North of the above intersection, the only
assuarnce signs are for US-59, as witnessed by the picture at far left (click
on it for a larger version), taken from the state line, showing the first
assurance sign within Oklahoma, and not showing OK-2. Also, approaching
Welch from the north (near left picture, coifalv), there's a "Jct OK-2"
sign, strongly suggesting the road is not already OK-2. Nutshell: all the
maps are wrong, and OK-2 now ends in Welch.
Sidebar: The two OK-2's used to connect. The part in between was decommissioned
a while back, as that section was wholly duplexed with US-69 from Vinita
to Muskogee, and US-64 from Muskogee to Warner. That section still existed
as OK-2 on a road map I have from 1953, so the center section was decommissioned
sometime after that.
