Western Terminus: OK-97, north of Sapulpa
Eastern Terminus: Old Sapulpa Rd/Frankhoma Rd/[Pre-]Historic Route 66,
2/3-mile ESE of the western terminus
Not much to this road. Only purpose seems to be to get
people from SH-97 to SH-66 without actually having to go through Sapulpa.
Turn left and the blue sign right by the Stop tells you you're headed for
Frankoma Pottery. Follow the "To 66" sign to the right and in about another
quarter-mile you get here:
BTW, the road that takes you from 66 to 166 is officially called Frankoma
Road these days, as it goes to the Frankoma Pottery. Maps refer to it as
Southwest Blvd., as that's what it's called when it gets into Tulsa. Those
that grew up in this area, however, call it Old Sapulpa Road. New Sapulpa
Road is the free road from Sapulpa to Tulsa that parallels the Turner Turnpike
(the two roads were constructed at approximately the same time). Stay on
SH-66, and you may be on New Sapulpa Road, but you won't
be on Historic
Route 66, despite what the signs tell you.
Before the turnpike was
built, Old
Sapulpa Road was the main route across this great land
of ours. State probably refuses to admit it because then they'd have to maintain
it a little better.
One more picture of the Eastern Terminus, this time coming from the
north on Old Sapulpa Rd. The bridge in the distance is the Turner Turnpike.
