Every once in a while I come up with ideas for the betterment of Oklahoma roads and/or travelers. Most of these are never ever gonna see the light of day, if for no other reason than there ain't enough spare change around to implement them. But one can dream...

Proposal 1:
I-844: The Big Outer Beltway
An idea I had for a giant 194-mile expressway looping entirely around Tulsa County, easing the burden of thru-traffic in Tulsa proper. Click on the sign at left to see the specifics.

Proposal 2: New State Highway Shield
New State Highway Shield While perusing some other road-related web sites, I came across one where people can submit recommendations for changes to the designs of various highway markers. (Here's the site.)  Many of the ideas are simply change for the sake of change, but some of them have merit. Especially in the states, such as Oklahoma, that have plain geometric figures for their state highway markers. The suggestions for Oklahoma involved either using the outline of the state (always a problem because of the panhandle; what were our Founding Fathers thinking?) or using the state seal that appears on the state flag.

I like the idea of using the state seal as part of the state highway shield, but the previous submissions seem to me too flashy. Too colorful. Besides, the seal itself has a great big circle within it that's perfect for the number. So I took the seal off our state flag and removed all color from it, leaving nothing but a solid white outline of the seal on a black background. It's still obvious what the outline is of, it's not soon to be mistaken for any other state, and it still leaves a large area for the highway number, still much larger than some other states. All state highway shields that appear on terminus pages that I have created for this web site have been changed to reflect what I think they should look like.
