PICTURES OF THE WEEK X

Week of October 17, 2004:
OK-51 westbound between Yale and Stillwater, and one of the most obvious pieces of evidence that Oklahoma has strong south winds most of the year.

Week of October 31, 2004:
I-44 westbound in Oklahoma City, at the northern terminus of I-235.

Week of November 14, 2004:
US-60/77/177 eastbound, just west of Ponca City at the western terminus of BUS-60. Note that along this route, northbound US-77 and southbound US-177 are going the same direction along the same road.

Week of November 21, 2004:
76th St. N/2nd Ave in Owasso, looking eastbound from underneath US-169. According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, this point also marks the eastern terminus of OK-135, despite the fact that, near as I can remember, it has never been physically signed as such.

Week of November 28, 2004:
Airport Road, after departing the Tulsa International Airport terminal. The turn in the background is an on-ramp to the westbound Gilcrease Expressway. Note the signage error for US-75.

Week of December 5, 2004:
Billboard at 11th & Sheridan in Tulsa advertising next Sunday's ABATE Toy Run. It's the Silver Anniversary run, so if you have a motorized two-or-three-wheeler, and an unwrapped toy to donate to Toys For Tots, please join us. Also a personal reason for putting the billboard on this page: the ABATE anniversary logo on the right was designed by Yours Truly, making it the only thing I've ever created for the public to see that is physically much larger than myself.

Week of December 12, 2004:
Riverside at 56th St. in Tulsa, roughly a minute after the start of the 25th Annual Tulsa ABATE Toy Run. Picture are just a few dozen of the more than 30,000 bikers that showed up to donate to the Marine Corps' Toy For Tots program. If the bike count holds up it means that this run, already the largest motorcycle toy run between the Rockies and the Mississippi, will become the largest such run in the entire nation

Week of December 19, 2004:
A rare sight: the Foley's section of Woodland Hills Mall in Tulsa on a nice sunny day with absolutely no cars in the parking lot! Picture taken last Christmas Day.

Week of January 9, 2005:
Broken Arrow Expressway in Tulsa outbound, just approaching the Mingo Valley Expressway. Note the signage error for US-64. Same error occurs on the inbound signs coming the other way.

Week of January 23, 2005:
I-40 westbound in Oklahoma City at the I-44 junction. Note that, along this stretch where I-44 and OK-3 are duplexed, the highways are going in opposite directions. (In this area, I-44/OK-3 actually runs north/south.)

Week of January 30, 2005:
I-444/US-64/US-75/OK-51 eastbound on the southern leg of the Inner-Dispersal Loop in Downtown Tulsa. The upcoming exit marks the point where the unsigned I-444 turns and heads north for the second half of its short run. The sign itself has since been replaced with updated materials.

Week of February 6, 2005:
I-244 northbound in West Tulsa, at the 2nd Southwest Blvd. exit. Note the old button-style of the BGS in the close-up.

Week of February 13, 2005:
Eastern terminus of the Kilpatrick Turnpike in OKC. Continuing straight dumps you onto the Turner Turnpike, and the original western terminus of I-44.

Week of February 27, 2005:
Where Talimena Drive crosses the Oklahoma-Arkansas State Line, Looking due south along the border. The sign in front is the "Welcome To" notice for each state. The road to the left of the sign is AR-88, to the right OK-1.

Week of March 20, 2005:
The Okmulgee Beeline, US-75 northbound between Tulsa & Jenks. For decades the highway only had a southbound exit at 81st & only a northbound entrance (north half of a standard diamond interchange). The remainder of the interchange (a northbound exit, above, and a southbound entrance) was recently added due to long-overdue construction work with the 71st Street bridge that currently has its corresponding off- and on-ramps closed.

Week of April 3, 2005:
66th St. N. just west of Yale, in the Cherokee Industrial Park. From a
Merriam-Webster online search for entery: "The word you've entered isn't in the dictionary."

Week of April 24, 2005:
The western terminus of the westernmost Oklahoma state highway, OK-325, as it crosses into New Mexico.

Week of May 8, 2005:
Northern terminus of the Indian Nations Turnpike, northbound approaching I-40. Continuing straight ahead takes you to Tulsa.
