While at this spot I stayed for about ten
minutes to catch up on my maps and check-off lists. In that time the only
thing I could hear was the sound of the leaves rustling the grass. No animals
(there were some cows in the distance, but they were keeping quiet), no
insects (temperature was below freezing), and most interestingly, no machinery!
No sounds of civilization of any kind, not even in the distance. Happens
far too infrequently.
